Sometimes called an eased edge, a microbevel, as seen in this picture, is a 45 degree cut down the length of the floorboards on all four sides of the board face. The opposite of a square-edged board, it is just a shallow hairline cut. When two microbevel floorboards meet up, the bevels create a "V" shape.
Floors that are installed square edge, with no micro bevel are supplied unfinished and will need to be sanded to get that smooth and glass like appearance.
Some homeowners dislike microbevels because they collect dirt. Owners of microbeveled floors need to gently sweep in the direction of the bevels or pick up the dirt with a vacuum. But other owners like microbevels for precisely the same reason: the channels collect dust for cleaning later rather than leaving it on the surface, where it can scratch.
Microbevels are also a way to cover up the unequal heights of pre-finished floorboards making for a smoother floor surface.
