The Pro's and cons of site finished hardwood floors
Choosing a site finished floor has both pros and cons. Here is a list for you to consider before you make your choice.
Pro's (it's all about the look)
1. You don't need a bevel on the edge of the board with a site sanded floor.
2. Site finishing brings that classic hardwood look... glassy, unbroken, smooth.
Please don't get us wrong, prefinished floors do look good it's just that, in our humble opinion, site finished floors look great!
4. Choose and fine tune your own colour in your home.
5. Easier to resand in the future.
6. Borders and feature lines look like they belong in the floor.
7. Also available engineered with wide widths, thicker wear layers and long lengths.
Cons (It's all about the convenience)
1. Site finished floors take longer to complete because of the additional sanding and finishing process.
2. They create dust from the sanding process and there will be smells from the finish.
3. Floor finish that is applied on site is not as durable as finish that is applied in a factory. UV curing and Aluminum oxide technology
applied to prefinished floors add strength and durability. Prefinished floors still scratch but they are generally better wearing.
