Solid Hardwood Floor
Solid hardwood is probably what comes to mind first when you think of wood flooring. It has lined the floors of many schoolhouses, gymnasiums and theatres for as long as most of us can remember and this is the reason that so many of us associate hardwood floors with value and quality.
Solid hardwood, unlike all other wood flooring options, is exactly that—solid wood. The most common types of hardwood flooring in North America are maple, oak, and birch and all can be stained a multitude of shades. Solid hardwood comes in a range of sizes, anywhere from one- to eight-inch wide planks in thicknesses ranging from half-an-inch to one-inch, with three-quarter-inch being the most common.
Advantages of Solid Hardwood:
· Its thick wear layer can be sanded many times
· Every plank is unique; the grain and colour never repeat
Disadvantages of Solid Hardwood:
· Susceptible to moisture and temperature changes
The photos below showcase a number of hardwood samples that you can use help choose the grain, colour, and plank size you prefer.
