Laminate Flooring

Like engineered hardwood, laminate flooring is both engineered and a composite, but that is where the similarities end. The top layer of laminate flooring is actually made of a thin layer of resin-infused paper that closely resembles a photograph. This paper is laid on top of a wood-chip composite or a medium density fibre board (MDF) backing.

Advantages of Laminate Flooring
- It is considerably less expensive than solid or engineered hardwoods
- It is scratch resistant and it can withstand small amounts of surface moisture
- It is easy to clean and maintain
- It is easy to install

Disadvantages of Laminate Flooring
- It provides a cold, hard walking surface
- It cannot be sanded
- It is not well-suited for areas where heavy water spillage might occur
- It has a repeating pattern of grain and colour
