floor leveling
All sub-floors are not created equal. But that's okay because a perfect sub-floor is not needed. A variance of ¼” over 10’ is acceptable. Concrete sub-floors are leveled by grinding down high spots and pouring and spreading self leveling cement into low areas. Plywood sub-floors are leveled by shimming and sanding as necessary with various thicknesses of plywood.
Poor leveling work can lead to a host of problems such as squeaking, cracking and excess movement in the new floor. Proper leveling requires experience and skill and is often overlooked at the expense of the overall job.
