FAQ
Is Acclimatization required for floor installation?
Because wood is the product of a living thing, it can and does continue to change even after it has been cut, processed and packaged. Humidity and heat have an impact on your flooring. For this reason it is necessary to acclimatize all wood flooring products in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications prior to installation.
What is involved in subfloor preparation?
It is imperative to the durability and long life of your wood flooring that the subfloor be properly prepared. We ensure your subfloor is damage-free, level, and properly prepared before installing your wood flooring. We will also under cut all door jams for a cleaner and more professional finished look.
What kind of underlay is used for wood floor installation?
There are a large variety of underlay products to choose from that provide different advantages and applications. Sound, heat, and moisture are just some of the things that need to be considered when deciding what type of underlay to use. One of the reasons we visit your space and do a walk through during your consultation is to help us determine the best products to use for all parts of your project.
What kind of adhesive should be used for wood floor installation?
Much like the wood flooring and underlay, there are numerous glue options to choose from, again each offering something different. Adhesives vary with regard to moisture resistance, urethane- or non-urethane-based, and working time. Which adhesive we use is determined by the wood flooring we are installing, the surface we are laying it on, and the environment of the room in which it is being installed.
What types of installation methods does Prestige Flooring use?
Our experienced installers have been professionally trained in all installation methods including glue-down, double glue-down, floating, and nail-down applications. Which method we use is determined by the subfloor we are working with and the type of wood flooring we are installing as well as customer preference.
What kinds of finishes do you use?
Once again there are numerous finishing options available including water-based, oil-based, and environmentally friendly options such as tung-oil. Which product we use is based upon product compatibility and your preference.
How is dust and mess contained during installation?
All of our installers are conscious of how dust travels and sticks to everything. We use industrial fans in the area we are sanding to create negative air pressure. We also contain dust by using poly barriers that have special zipper entries to help ensure no dust escapes beyond the barrier.
How are stains removed and lustre restored to old floors?
The first step is to colour match stain to your old floor. Once we have done this, we sand the stained area and then apply the stain. Once the colours match we seal the repaired spot with a matching finish. We use Duraseal stain products from Minwax—our customers have been fully satisfied with the results for over 25 years.
How do you keep wood flooring stain-free and preserve its lustre?
By applying a clear coat we lock in the colour of your wood flooring and give it a smooth finish that will last for years to come.
